Officer accidentally grazed by bullet at range

An officer from a southern Indiana law enforcement agency accidentally shot himself in the leg Monday morning at the Allen County Sheriff’s Training Facility on Adams Center Road.

According to Allen County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel, the officer was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Just before 11 a.m., the officer was participating in a training exercise and as he drew his weapon, the trigger caught on something – either on his jacket or his pants – and fired a round, which grazed his leg.

The superficial injury was accidental in nature, but the matter remains under investigation, Tinkel said.
