Former Elmhurst, IU star arrested

Former Elmhurst and Indiana University football standout James Hardy was arrested, accused of getting into an altercation with Los Angeles police officers.

Officers were called to the 600 block of St. Paul Ave. at about 4 p.m. Sunday because a man was “causing a disturbance,” according to LAPD officer Diana Figueroa.

Hardy, 28, refused to comply with officers, who intended to use a stun gun on the suspect and were involved in a use of force, according to Figueroa. Hardy was listed at 6-foot-7, 220 pounds when he played for IU.

Hardy and one officer were transported to a local hospital, and Hardy was treated in stable condition, Figueroa said.

Hardy was arrested on a charge of resisting an officer and was being held on $25,000 bail.

Harday was selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. He caught 10 passes for 96 yards with two touchdowns in two seasons with the Bills. He spent time with the Baltimore Ravens but never played in a regular-season game for Baltimore as injuries hampered his professional career.
