TinCaps drop 16-2 laugher to South Bend

FORT WAYNE – The TinCaps struggled in every phase of the game in South Bend’s 16-2 rout before 4,758 at Parkview Field on Sunday.

They made three errors, including one that let in a run, and used outfielder Ronnie Richardson to pitch the ninth inning on a day where so little went right.

The TinCaps (12-17) lost two out of three in the series and finished 3-4 on the homestand. They begin a six-game road trip Monday at Lansing.

South Bend (17-13) connected for nine doubles and a home run among its 16 hits. The Silver Hawks scored five runs in the first and eight in the fourth.

TinCaps starter Bryan Verbitsky (0-1) lasted two innings and allowed six earned runs on eight hits.

The TinCaps fell to 2-10 in day games.
