BAE breaks ground on $46 million electronics facility

BAE Systems broke ground this morning on a $46 million electronics manufacturing center near Fort Wayne International Airport.

“Wow. I didn’t think the day would ever get here,” said Bob Hoffman, BAE System’s local operations director.

Hoffman and others have been working on the project for more than three years. Even after construction, thousands of pieces of manufacturing equipment will have to be moved into the new, 334,000-square-foot building before the transition is complete, he said.

The British defense contractor employs more than 1,000 in Fort Wayne in engineering, management, operations and production jobs. Plans call for them to move into the new building by the end of next year.
