Ferguson set to exit CBS show

Nayyar

A few weeks after David Letterman announced he’d be retiring from the CBS late-night television lineup, Craig Ferguson did the same.

Ferguson, host of “The Late Late Show” since 2005, told his studio audience during Monday’s taping that he will step down at the end of the year. Ferguson’s show airs after Letterman’s, at 12:35 a.m. on weekdays.

The move was no surprise after CBS announced that Stephen Colbert will replace Letterman next year. There was a time that Ferguson, whose show won a Peabody Award in 2009, was considered a strong contender for that job.

He told the audience it was his decision to leave, adding, “CBS has been fine with me.”

CBS said it plans to continue “The Late Late Show” and will be searching for another host.

Beware Nelson

Some advice for when Willie Nelson slides off his sneakers personalized with the word “Texas”: Don’t mess with him.

The country music icon, who turns 81 today, received his fifth-degree black belt in the martial art of Gong Kwon Yu Sul on Monday night.

Nelson cinched his black belt – personalized with his name – around a black robe and wore his signature braids behind his head. It was a more low-key affair than usual for the lionized singer: Just this past weekend, Oscar winner and fellow Texan Matthew McConaughey inducted Nelson into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame at a blowout concert.
