Alcohol arrests many at IU, Purdue events

Indiana State Excise Police arrested 187 people during Indiana University's Little 500 bicycle races and another 38 during Purdue University's Grand Prix go-kart event over the weekend.

At IU 155 people were arrested for illegal possession or consumption of an alcoholic beverage and 17 for furnishing alcoholic to a minor, according to a police statement. Most who were arrested on alcoholic beverage-related charges were issued a summons and released. They were required to appear in a Monroe County court Sunday morning, the release stated.

Other charges included possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and various traffic-related offenses.

At Purdue officers issued 31 summonses for illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage. Other charges included public intoxication, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a minor.
