The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo opens for the season today, and we know you just can’t wait to visit.

There are more than 1,000 animals at the zoo, so to help you make the most of your visit, we’ve compiled our top 10 picks for the best zoo trip ever.

Bill the Lion. We use just one word to sum up Bill the Lion: awesome. Just look at his massive paws – awesome. How about those golden eyes that seem to look right through you – awesome. And when Bill lies against the window so you can lean right up against him – awesome!

Feed a giraffe. While you’re in the African Journey visiting Bill the Lion, stop by and feed a giraffe. Seeing the giraffe’s long tongue wrap around a piece of lettuce is unbelievable. If you get slimed in the process, don’t worry – you can wash your hands right around the corner.

Talk to a diver. Have a question about fish? You can ask our scuba diver while they’re underwater. Check in at the Great Barrier Reef Aquarium any Wednesday or Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

Answer a riddle. How do you stop an elephant from charging? We’re not telling; you can find out the answer by visiting the world-famous Croaky the Frog.

Picture a peacock. Peacocks are experts at getting attention. When they spread their colorful feathers to attract a mate, they get their picture taken more than any other animal in the zoo.

Get nose to nose. Tengku the orangutan is a gentle giant. This 300-pound ape often swings close to the window to peer into strollers, purses and lunch bags. Show him what you’ve got on your next visit.

Catch the show. Play “Sea Lion Says” or “Sea Lions Got Talent” with your flippered friends during sea lion shows daily at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The sea lions get tasty fish, and you might get a bubble kiss.

Ride the train. By now, Mom or Dad might be ready for a break, so let them take you on a train ride. Watch for wild herons and waterfowl as you cruise along Shoaff Lake. Toot toot!

Groom a goat. No visit to the zoo is complete without a stop in the Indiana Family Farm. Grab a brush from the bucket, choose a goat and start grooming. You’ll have a new friend by the time you’re done.

Sit on the ZOO. Before you leave, gather the whole family for a photo on top of the big red ZOO letters. It will help you remember your amazing zoo adventure – until next time.
