Cheers & jeers

CHEERS to the Neighborhood Health Clinic and the enrollers who were so vital in aiding people to secure health care coverage. There were many skipped lunch hours and many hours worked well past normal quitting time in order to navigate the website. Those efforts ensured coverage for individuals and families that now allows them to seek medical treatment. Maybe just as revealing, they are now empowered to enter a physician’s office or a hospital with a sense of dignity.

JEERS to the person who trespassed on our property recently and stole our air conditioner cover. I mean, really! I hope its something you really needed.

CHEERS to the more than 50 adults and children from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church who participated in our annual Family Service Day on April 12. They raked lawns, washed windows, cleaned yards and painted for families in need in the area. We are blessed to have you serving our Community in Christ.

CHEERS to Mable Reinig, our Journal Gazette carrier, for faithfully delivering our newspaper to our front door every morning no matter the weather. Thank you for caring and always doing a wonderful job.

JEERS to Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation for its summer schedule of shows at the Foellinger Outdoor Theatre with the cost of tickets ranging from $35 to $60. Wow! I will not be attending any of those 10 shows. Sadly, missing from the schedule was the Brent Cooper “Memories of The King,” which I and hundreds of others have enjoyed over the years. When he first performed, his shows were free. As he became more popular, there was a fee of $5 which I gladly paid in addition to the extra change or dollars I dropped into the green boxes. I prefer seeing our local talented performers at the Foellinger Theatre rather than high-cost outsiders.

CHEERS to Justine Schultz. A few weeks ago (on a very windy day), I was leaving Glenbrook Square and found my truck with a huge dent in the door. Thankfully, Justine left a note with her information, and the result is my truck is fixed. I sincerely appreciate her honesty and integrity. Not everyone would choose to do the right thing. Lucky for me, Justine did.

CHEERS to our fantastic Allen County Public Library system. Each week, I spend many enjoyable hours reading, listening to great music and watching wonderful movies. This is all possible by taking advantage of the wonderful libraries we have her in our community.
