United Way expects to raise $4.7 million for partner agencies

United Way of Allen County announced Thursday nearly $4.7 million is projected to be collected this year during the Community Campaign.

At a celebration breakfast Thursday morning, organization CEO Todd Stephenson and campaign chair Chris Sosebee announced the number.

“We are pleased with the outcome of the campaign because of all the great work that it will help accomplish in our community,” Sosebee said in a written statement released Thursday. “This $4.7 million allows our 34 partner agencies to continue to run outstanding programs that make a difference in the lives of so many Allen County residents and it allows United Way to further their work in their education initiatives and the work being done by the 211 Service Center, which is supported by Lutheran Health Network.”

This year’s projected total is nearly $500,000 less than the agency announced for projected collections last year.

Throughout Allen County, more than 250 workplaces and 12,000 donors contributed to the Community Campaign.

The Robert Goldstine Foundation again provided a grant matching new giving of over $1,000.

The United Way projects the grant will bring in an additional $265,000 to the campaign.

Donations to the campaign support programs at the United Way’s 34 agency partners, education initiatives and Kindergarten Countdown.

Donations made to the campaign also go to basic needs assistance through the 211 service center.

Steel Dynamics won the agency’s top workplace campaign honor, called the Spirit of Giving Award.
