An early morning robber threatened to shoot a Lassus Handy Dandy clerk, saying “I gotta feed my babies,” according to a statement issued by the Warsaw Police Department.
Later Thursday, the department said Daniel Ybarra Jr., 30, was arrested at noon on a charge of armed robbery.
Warsaw police were called to 1900 Plaza Drive about 4 a.m. The clerk told police the suspect came into the store while other customers were still there and was acting strangely, milling around. After the customers left, the clerk said, the robber pulled out a black handgun and said he needed money or he was going to shoot.
After getting money, he left on foot, according to the police report.
The Kosciusko County Major Crimes Unit, Indiana State Police and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department assisted Warsaw police.
This is not Ybarra’s first brush with the law.
In the summer of 2010, he was accused of stealing a pickup truck and leading the owner and Kosciusko County officers on a chase. Ybarra, then of Pierceton, was charged with felony auto theft and misdemeanor counts of public intoxication and resisting law enforcement.
A blood-alcohol test given to Ybarra at the time registered 0.19 percent, deputies said.
