A 55-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday to 80 years in prison on child molesting charges.
John Newman, of the 800 block of Wilt Street, was accused of molesting two girls who were known to him.
According to court documents, the girls’ mothers went to his home to look for them, but they were not where they were supposed to be.
Later, while they were being interviewed at the Bill Lewis Center for Children, the girls said they had been with Newman, and when he heard their mothers looking for them, he told them to put their clothes on.
The girls then detailed multiple instances in which they said Newman performed sex acts on them, took videos of them and made each watch while he molested the other.
He is accused of abusing them between May and Dec. 10, 2013.
Newman was also accused of performing sexual conduct in the presence of a minor and of child exploitation. Police recovered digital images of Newman with one of the girls in sexually explicit positions, according to court documents.
On Tuesday, Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Newman to 80 years in prison on two of the original 10 charges against him.
As part of the plea agreement with prosecutors, the additional charges were dismissed.
