Estranged wife stabbed multiple times, abducted

A Fort Wayne man has been arrested in Ohio and faces charges in Allen County in connection with an attack on his estranged wife in which she was stabbed and abducted on Easter Sunday, Fort Wayne police said Tuesday.

Police went to the woman’s apartment after getting a call that a woman had been stabbed and found blood by the front door and living room. Before going to the apartment, police listened to voicemails to the woman’s son, including one with screaming.

No one was in the apartment and the woman’s car was in the parking lot.

Officers attempted to track down her estranged husband, Tommy O. Townsend, and learned he had a relative in Piqua, Ohio.

On Tuesday, police issued an update on the case, saying that the woman had been stabbed multiple times and taken from her apartment to the uncle’s home in Piqua. Shortly afterward, Townsend, 45, attempted suicide by crashing his vehicle into a parked car, police said.

He was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated in Ohio and Fort Wayne police detectives have requested an arrest warrant on several charges connected with the case, police said.

Police said the woman was admitted to an Ohio hospital in serious but stable condition.
