Driver rescued from burning SUV

A man was in serious but stable condition after he lost control of his SUV, it struck several trees and then caught fire, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department.The driver, Scott A. Greenwood, 47, of Waterloo, was driving northbound in the 5900 block of County Road 427 around 3:15 a.m. Sunday when he traveled across the center line and ran into a ditch with a steep embankment, the statement said.His SUV struck several trees and until it rolled from the slant of the embankment and struck another tree, where it came to rest. That tree trapped Greenwood inside the SUV, which caught fire, the statement said.Police and fire crews were able to get Greenwood out of the burning vehicle. He was taken to Parkview Regional Hospital with a broken leg and a head wound.Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, the statement said.
