Husband accused of arson

A Fort Wayne man faces preliminary charges of arson and criminal mischief, accused of setting several fires in his wife’s apartment after an argument.

Donzell C. Jones, 33, of the 2800 block of Millbrook Drive, was arrested Tuesday after police were called to the scene of a fire at his wife’s apartment and investigators determined Jones was responsible.

Jones’ wife told police the two got into an argument and she left the apartment to let him calm down but her car wouldn’t start and she went back inside to find the apartment on fire.

An investigator with the Fort Wayne Fire Department wrote in a probable cause affidavit that he found six areas where fires were started in the apartment, one in the hallway and five in a bedroom.

The investigator concluded Jones was responsible for the fires because he was in the apartment when they started, and there were no other apparent sources for ignition.

When asked repeatedly if he set the fires or how they started, Jones said, “I can’t say it,” according to the affidavit.
