Northeast Indiana students, teacher earn All-Star honors

Several northeast Indiana students and one teacher were honored this week in the 2014 Indiana Academic All-Stars program of the Indiana Association of School Principals.

"Academic All-Star distinction recognizes seniors who excel in the classroom first and foremost, but who also are actively involved in their schools and communities, and take on leadership roles in those activities," according to the announcement.

Franklin College gave one of two Influential Educator Awards to Carroll High School history teacher Leslie Clark, who was recognized by Regional Academic All-Star Dillon Fernando.

Purdue University presented a $1,000 scholarship to Regional Academic All-Star Ashley Helfers of Wawasee High School.

Nathan Grabner of Bishop Luers High School was recognized as an Indiana Academic All-Star.

The following area students were recognized as Academic All-Star regional honorees:

  • Emily Eckelbarger, Northfield Jr./Sr. High School, Wabash.
  • Dillon Fernando, Carroll High School, Fort Wayne.
  • Adam Hanback, Manchester Junior Senior High School, North Manchester.
  • Ashley Helfers, Wawasee High School, Syracuse.
  • Allyson Jenkins, NorthWood High School, Nappanee.
