German company investing $4.5 million in Columbia City facility

DOT GmbH, a medical coating technology provider, is investing $4.5 million to lease, renovate and equip a building in Columbia City’s Blue River Industrial Park, state officials said Thursday.

DOT America Inc., which opened in October, is creating up to 20 new high-wage jobs in the next two years as it ramps up operations.

The Rostock, Germany-based orthopedics company has already started hiring at the 17,520-square-foot Columbia City location. The company employs more than 290 in Germany. DOT’s coating treatment is used on medical implants and instruments.

Gov. Mike Pence met Thursday with company officials. Hans Eifeler, DOT’s managing director, said the state has eased the process of opening the company’s first facility outside Germany.

“DOT chose to establish its North American operations in Indiana primarily because the world’s leading orthopedic companies are located here,” Eifeler said in a statement. “In addition, Indiana has a positive, welcoming business climate for foreign investors.”
