Sexual offender nabbed in Steuben

Corey A. Witsman

Just one day after the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department put the word out it was looking for a registered sex offender, the department made an arrest in the case.

Police were looking for Corey A. Witsman, 26, who was convicted in July of sexual misconduct with a minor but was not registered as a sex offender as required as a result of his conviction.

On Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Witsman at a home near Barton Lake in northern Steuben County.

He was booked at the county jail on one count of a probation violation and two felony counts of failure to register as a sex or violent offender. He was held without bail Tuesday.
