Senators accepting judicial applications

Sens. Dan Coats, R-Ind., and Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., are inviting applications from prospective candidates for an upcoming vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

Federal Judge Sarah Evans Barker has announced her plans to retire after 30 years on the bench.

An applicant does not have to be a resident of the southern district but must move there if nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate. The district covers the southern two-thirds of the state and operates courts in Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Evansville and New Albany.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. May 12 and can be submitted at www.donnelly.senate.gov/judge.
