2 cats dead, home damaged in fire

A house fire caused moderate damage to a two-story home at 2203 Crescent Ave. and left two cats dead Monday morning.

Firefighters were called to the house just after 9 a.m. and found black smoke coming from the southwest corner of the home’s first floor.

The fire was found primarily in the dining room and quickly extinguished.

The occupants of the home were at school or work at the time and two dogs were found alive and well.
