2 injured in Kosciusko crash

Two men were injured, one critically, Tuesday in Kosciusko County when the car they were in hit a wooden fence and a tree, police said.

Michael S. Thomas, 29, of Warsaw, was headed north on County Road 150 West about 5 p.m. when the Chevy Camaro he was driving left the east side of the road south of County Road 400 North and hit a fence, several woods posts and eventually a tree, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.

Police and rescuers found Thomas pinned in the heavily damaged car and suffering from a severe head injury.

He was freed from the car and flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, police said.

A passenger in the car, 20-year-old Joseph G. Haupert of Claypool, was transported by ambulance in serious condition to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Police said he also suffered head injuries.

Witnesses told police the car appeared to be traveling very fast before it lost control.

The crash remains under investigation.
