Dogs saved, cats die in Crescent Avenue fire

A house fire on Crescent Avenue Monday morning killed two cats, but two dogs were unharmed, according to a statement from the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at a house in the 2200 block of Crescent shortly after 9 a.m. Monday to find black smoke coming from a dining room on the first floor of a two-story house.

No people were in the house at the time of the fire, the statement said, but firefighters found two dead cats and two dogs that were alive and well.

The house sustained moderate damage from the fire, which remains under investigation.
