3 rescued from flooding; 1 faces DWI count

Thursday’s heavy rain and high water resulted in at least two rescues of stranded motorists.

Police and firefighters rescued a man about 4 p.m. Thursday, just east of Bluffton where River Road ends at County Road 450 East, after he crashed into the Wabash River, according to the Wells County Sheriff’s Department.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment and was then booked at the Wells County Jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated.

Another rescue occurred about 5 a.m. Friday southeast of Rome City in Noble County with two adults stranded on the roof of their car. They were rescued from about 3 feet of water by the Orange Township Fire Department near the intersection of county roads 850 North and 175 East.
