Crack in pocket adds charge after weekend in jail

Elyse S. Barnfield

An inmate who spent the weekend at the Allen County Jail now faces an additional felony charge after jailers found what appeared to be crack cocaine in the woman’s pocket as she got ready for court Monday morning.

Elyse S. Barnfield, 28, of the 700 block of East Camden Drive, was arrested March 28 on several preliminary felony drug possession charges and was getting ready to head to court Monday morning when confinement officers noticed items in her jail uniform pocket, according to the probable cause affidavit.

When officers removed the items from the pocket they found a small, white rocky substance, according to police.

The rock, which weighed about half a gram, was tested by police and showed positive for cocaine, according to the report.

As a result, Barnfield now faces an additional felony charge of cocaine possession.

According to Indiana Department of Correction records, Barnfield was in prison three times for cocaine possession since 2006.

Her most recent stint was a one-year sentence ordered in June 2013.
