Tanker in memory of fallen firefighter

In 2012, the Washington Township Fire Department lost one of its firefighters when he was killed as he responded in a tanker truck to a brush fire.

The fire department will dedicate a new tanker truck at 7 p.m. Wednesday in memory of Mark Haudenschild II. The truck will replace the one destroyed in the Nov. 11, 2012, crash.

“This is a bittersweet time for us. We will celebrate the new apparatus and dedicate its service to our fallen comrade and his family,” Washington Township Fire Chief Brian Gillett said in a news release.

Haudenschild’s widow, Janet, and his father will help dump the first tank of water from the truck as part of the dedication and help push the tanker into service.
