1 dead after rollover crash into high water

Despite attempts to save him, a LaOtta man died Friday evening in a crash that rolled his pickup three times into a flooded field.

About 8:20 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Noble County Sheriff’s Department and the Avilla Police Department responded to the crash at 2885 South Noble County Road 600 East.

Gerald Quinn, 49, was driving a 2001 Dodge Dakota south on County Road 600 East when it crossed the center line, went off the east side of the road, down an embankment, rolled three times and came to rest on its top in a flooded field, according to a statement issued Saturday by the state police.

It said that the truck and Quinn were submerged in the water.

The state police said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.

The LaOtto Fire Department and the Churubusco Fire Department also assisted.
