Missing ice fisher in Noble County found dead

The body of an ice fisher was found in Chain O' Lakes State Park in Noble County after the fisher went missing Sunday night, according to a statement from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Indiana Conservation Officer divers recovered the body of Douglas W. Haigwood, 43, of Kimmel in Mud Lake at 3:32 p.m. on Monday.

Haigwood was reported missing by a friend after he went ice fishing at 10 p.m. Sunday night and didn't return, the statement said. Officers located his fishing gear on the ice but were unable to locate the fisherman until this afternoon.

With recent warm temperatures, ice conditions are deteriorating rapidly on local lakes and ponds, making them dangerous, the statement said. Conservation Officers encourage everyone to avoid the ice for any reason.
