Irish hammer Oklahoma State, on to Elite Eight

SOUTH BEND – The Notre Dame women's basketball team cruised to an 89-72 victory over Oklahoma State in the third round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday at Purcell Pavilion.

The top-seeded Irish (35-0) will play No. 2 seed Baylor on Monday in the Elite Eight.

Forward Natalie Achonwa led the way for Notre Dame, piling up 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists and a career-high five blocked shots.

Jewell Loyd had 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Kayla McBride chipped in 18 points and five rebounds for the Irish, who shot 51 percent.

The fifth-seeded Cowgirls (25-9) shot 41 percent and were led by 17 points and 11 assists from senior point guard Tiffany Bias.

Notre Dame scored the game's first 14 points and never trailed. The Irish extended their home winning streak to 27 games.
