Investigation into grocery shootings completed

– A northern Indiana prosecutor will announce the findings of a state police investigation into the fatal shooting by Elkhart police of a gunman who had shot and killed a supermarket shopper and an employee there.

Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill Jr. scheduled a news conference Thursday to disclose what state police found while investigating the fatal shooting of Shawn Walter Bair on Jan. 15. Bair had already killed two women and was threatening to kill a manager at Martin’s Super Market when two police officers entered the store and distracted Bair, sending the manager running.

Police say Bair was fatally shot by the two officers after he confronted them.

The officers were honored last month by the General Assembly and Gov. Mike Pence for their bravery.
