Resource center gets $175,000 grant

Learn Resource Center of New Haven said today it has received a $175,000 state grant to fund academic enrichment programs in year-round out-of-school programs for New Haven students.

The grant application was submitted in cooperation with East Allen County Schools, the resource center said in a statement.

Grant funds will be used to support before-school, after-school and summer programs, not for overall operating expenses, the statement said.

Statewide, it said, about $11.1 million was awarded to 53 organizations serving 184 after-school sites.

The grants are known as 21st Century Community Learning Center Grants, and are awarded by the state Department of Education.
