Driver arrested after firing shots in air

A 23-year-old man is charged with carrying a handgun without a license with a prior conviction as well as reckless driving after he fired about a dozen rounds into the sky while driving a week ago, police said.

Michael P. Back, of the 800 block of Ridgewood Drive, was arrested March 14 after he drove by a marked Fort Wayne Police squad car, firing bullets into the air, according to court documents.

As the officer drove behind the vehicle to pull it over, it ran through a red light and sped up, heading down Clinton Street at a high rate of speed. Another officer pulled the vehicle over at State and Clinton and inside the car found a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson, according to court documents.
