Verbatim: Tear gas drives barricaded man from residence

A report received Friday morning from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

On Friday March 21,2014 at approximately 2:47 AM, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department attempted to serve a felony warrant on a subject who was identified as 24 year old Larry Hayden Jr at a residence located in the 2500 block of Thompson Avenue.

Officers on the scene advised that Hayden told them that he was armed with a weapon and refused to come outside and surrender to police.

At that time, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Departments Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team were called to the scene.

Members with the Crisis Response Team attempted for several hours to make contact with Hayden but was unsuccessful at which time officers administered tear gas into the residence. A short time later, Hayden exited the residence and surrendered to police. Hayden was then taken into custody.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
