Charges filed in brutal attack on woman, 80

Prosecutors filed formal charges against 19-year-old Zachery Doan Monday in connection with the violent home invasion robbery that left an elderly woman with severe facial injuries, including the loss of an eye.

On March 10, Doan asked to use the bathroom of an 80-year-old woman who lived next door to his aunt and uncle. She let him in, and later he returned, saying his car had broken down. The woman refused to let him in and a short while later he broke into her house, according to court documents.

He punched her repeatedly in the face with a closed fist and ran off with her purse, according to court documents.

Doctors found the woman’s eye was “pulverized” and her other eye so damaged she may lose sight in that one as well. She also suffered multiple facial fractures, according to court documents.

Doan is charged with burglary causing serious bodily injury, robbery and aggravated battery. He remains in the Allen County Jail in lieu of $125,000 bail.
