Farm Bureau plans 3 meetings on new farm bill

– Indiana farmers curious about what’s in the farm bill recently passed by Congress can learn more during three regional meetings Indiana Farm Bureau is sponsoring later this month.

President Barack Obama signed the nearly $100 billion-a-year farm bill into law last month. The measure provides subsidies for U.S. farmers, but the bulk of its cost is for the food stamp program that aids one in seven Americans.

Indiana Farm Bureau’s three education meetings will focus on the new law’s commodity, livestock, and crop insurance programs.

Two of the meetings will be March 27, at the Fulton County Fairgrounds Community Center in Rochester and The Glass Barn at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

The third meeting is March 28 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds Expo Hall in Bedford.
