Teens, join the Fit Crew

The Journal Gazette is planning a three-month project with local teens to help them learn how to eat healthy, exercise and to feel better.

The Journal Gazette is seeking participants for its Weighty Matters: Teen Edition weight-loss program that will focus on helping teens ages 13 to 18 establish a healthier lifestyle.

The project will begin June 9 and continue through Aug. 9. The Journal Gazette is partnering with the YMCA and Lutheran and Parkview hospitals for the project.

Our “Fit Crew” will receive a free YMCA family membership for three months, meet with nutritionists/dietitians from Lutheran and Parkview hospitals, and attend wellness programs and meetings with personal trainers.

Salem Albayyari, a Northrop High School senior who lost 100 pounds, will help mentor the participants.

Participants will offer weekly updates of their health journey and will blog about their efforts and tips on eating, exercising and overall health.

Those selected should be prepared to take a physical before participating.

If interested, please send an essay of no more than 800 words describing why you want to join our Fit Crew and what you hope to achieve to Kimberly Dupps Truesdell at The Journal Gazette, 600 W. Main St., Fort Wayne, IN 46802, or email kdupps@jg.net.

Deadline to receive submissions is April 11.

Any questions, please call Kimberly Dupps Truesdell at 461-8727.
