Storm warning: 5-8 inches in area, more possible near Michigan

The National Weather Service has boosted possible snow totals from today's winter storm for LaGrange and Steuben counties in Indiana and for Williams County, Ohio.

Those areas can expect 6 to 10 inches of snow between now and 5 p.m., the weather service said in its storm warning.

Most of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, including Allen County, is forecast to receive 5 to 8 inches of snow during the storm, the warning said.

Mercer County, Ohio, is expected to receive 3 to 5 inches of snow through 8 p.m., the weather service said.

It said snow would fall at rates of 1 inch to 2 inches an hour -- faster in the northern counties -- with considerable blowing and drifting from gusty winds of 35 to 40 mph.

Visibility will be near zero in the heaviest snow, and power outages from fallen tree branches are possible, the weather service said.
