Thousands without power in winter storm

About 4,800 northeast Indiana customers were without power in Allen, Kosciusko and Whitley counties today because of the winter storm, area utilities have reported.

As of 4:55 p.m., Indiana Michigan Power's website said about 3,000 customers were without power in Allen County.

I&M said in a statement it expected to have power restored to 90 percent of its Fort Wayne-area customers by 6 p.m. today and the rest by 2 p.m. Thursday.

The utility said it had crews and contractors coming from other areas to assist with power restoration.

Also, Kosciusko REMC said about 1,700 members were without power, including those served by the Maple Leaf substation in the northern part of Kosciusko County.

And Northeastern REMC said about 140 members in Whitley County were without power.
