Doris Day to turn 90 with benefit

Screen legend Doris Day is celebrating a landmark birthday with an auction to benefit her favorite cause: animals.

A spokesman for Day said Tuesday the nonprofit Doris Day Animal Foundation will mark her 90th birthday in April with a bash in Carmel, Calif.

A sold-out fundraising celebration at Day’s Cypress Inn will include a doggie fashion show, adoption event and an April 4 tribute dinner for fans and friends.

Bieber trial set

A May 5 trial date has been set for Justin Bieber in the Florida case charging him with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and possessing an invalid driver’s license.

Prosecutors also said at a Tuesday hearing that no plea offer has been made for the 20-year-old pop singer. He has pleaded not guilty.

The first trial date was postponed while attorneys for news organizations and Bieber wrestled with release of police videos of him giving a urine sample for a drug test.

Lee to visit fest

Director Spike Lee will attend a 25th-anniversary screening of “Do The Right Thing” at late movie critic Roger Ebert’s film festival.

The festival announced Tuesday that the screening will take place April 25 during the 16th annual Ebertfest in Champaign, Ill.

The festival previously announced that director Oliver Stone would attend a 25th-anniversary screening of his film “Born on the Fourth of July.” Comedian Patton Oswalt will attend a screening of his 2011 movie “Young Adult.”

Ebert died last April at age 70.
