Deputy discovers Williams County fire

A fire in Williams County early Sunday destroyed a small structure near a house and was spreading, the Williams County Sheriff's Office said.

A deputy on patrol about 1:50 a.m. saw a small structure on fire near a residence on County Road H-50 in Jefferson Township, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The deputy attempted to salvage items from the structure while the county's central communications contacted the Bryan Fire Department and the residence's owner, the statement said.

It said the building appeared to be a total loss, and the fire was spreading when Bryan firefighters arrived.

The fire remains under investigation.
