A roof fire caused minor damage to Protective Coatings early Thursday.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called to the business at 1602 Birchwood Ave., near East Washington and Coliseum boulevards, just before 5 a.m.

Firefighters found some roofing had caught fire in the rear of the complex.

While access to the fire was a problem at first, it was small and quickly extinguished. The blaze was ignited by workers cutting material near the roof. No injuries were reported, and the 15 people inside the business exited safely, firefighters said.
