The Maplecrest extension awaits its grand opening in 2012.

Maplecrest extension wins 2nd industry honor

Statement as issued Friday by Allen County officials:

(March 7, 2014) — Allen County’s Maplecrest Road Extension project has garnered yet another award – this one from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Indiana.

The County Highway Department received one of seven Honor Awards presented at the ACEC Indiana Engineering Excellence Awards Luncheon yesterday in Indianapolis.

The awards are presented annually by ACEC to recognize engineering achievements by Indiana consulting engineering firms. Entries are judged on uniqueness and originality; future value to the engineering profession; social, economic and sustainable design considerations; complexity; and exceeding the owner’s needs.

The Maplecrest extension was opened to traffic in late October 2012 and represents the largest infrastructure project in Allen County’s history. The 1.5-mile east corridor connector extends Maplecrest from Lake Avenue to Adams Center Road at Indiana 930 in New Haven. It features construction of one and a-half miles of new four-lane roadway with curb and gutter and four new bridges. Also included were new storm sewers and a multi-use trail. American Structurepoint was the engineering firm for the project.

The Maplecrest project recently earned the County Highway Department a Silver Award from the American Concrete Pavement Association. The organization is the national trade association for the concrete pavement industry.
