A Steuben County couple accused of neglecting and mistreating a 6-year-old child were arrested Wednesday.

Christopher Wickerham, 29, and April Wickerham, 32, are both facing felony counts of neglect of a dependent and battery to a child.

A police investigation into the Wickerhams was launched last month after Steuben County sheriff's detectives received a report that a child in the couple's care had been mistreated.

The child is the biological child of Christopher Wickerham and the stepchild of April Wickerham, police said.

The Wickerhams were arrested at their home near Hamilton and booked into Steuben County Jail, where they are being held without bail pending an initial hearing.
