St. Joseph Hospital is installing new overhead surgical lighting this week as part of a $5.9 million renovation of its operating rooms. The downtown Fort Wayne hospital is at 700 Broadway.
The three-phase project, announced in late September, includes reducing the number of ORs to five from seven, creating larger areas capable of accommodating orthopedics surgeries, which sometimes require larger equipment, spokeswoman Lizette Downey said Tuesday.
Surgeries will begin in the renovated, third-floor area next week. The complete project is scheduled to be finished by the end of the year.
Upgrades are being made to flooring, ceiling lights, heating and cooling systems throughout the surgical department. Surgical equipment is also being replaced, officials said.
