'Shred Day' set for Thursday

In an effort to battle identity theft, a "Shred Day" has been scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at 3Rivers Federal Credit Union, 1615 Northland Blvd., Indiana State Police said today.

A mobile shredder provided by Iron Mountain Inc. will be in the parking lot at the credit union, and the public is invited to bring papers, credit cards or other materials containing personal information to be destroyed free of charge, state police at Fort Wayne said in a statement.

Plastic and metal items cannot be shredded, but paper clips and binders are acceptable, the statement said.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Better Business Bureau of Northern Indiana also are part of the event.
