Heavy snow heads this way

The National Weather Service has added Allen County, Ind., and Paulding County, Ohio, to its winter storm watch, saying areas from Fort Wayne south could see 6 to 10 inches of snow between Saturday night and Sunday night.

Locally heavier amounts are possible in the watch region, which also includes Adams, Huntington, Wabash and Wells counties in Indiana and Van Wert County, Ohio, the weather service said.

It said an area that includes Mercer County, Ohio, may receive 8 to 12 inches of snow, along with a trace of ice.

The winter storm watch lasts through early Monday. Some areas farther south might get sleet as well as snow.

Counties north of Fort Wayne in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio are likely to get 3 to 7 inches of snow over the weekend, according to early predictions.

The weather service encouraged residents to monitor the latest forecasts.
