Whiteouts forecast for Thursday afternoon

Much of the Fort Wayne area is in for snow showers and high winds that could combine to create whiteout conditions at times, the National Weather Service in northern Indiana says.

The following counties were included in the special weather statement:

  • Indiana – Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, Noble, Wabash, Whitley, Marshall, Fulton, Miami, Wells, Grant, Blackford and Jay
  • Ohio – Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Allen
Some areas could heavy snow at times, and winds gusts of 25 mph to 35 mph are forecast.

Total snow accumulations are expected to be half an inch or less in the area.

The weather service also issued a winter weather advisory for LaGrange and Steuben counties, saying additional snow accumulations of less than an inch were possible there, except for localized 1- to 2-inch amounts in lake-effect snow bands.
