A section of Marion Center Road, seen here Tuesday morning, remained closed on Wednesday as the St. Marys River overflowed its banks.

Roads remain closed by high water

As of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Allen County Highway Department South Barn reported that Bostic Road still has barricades but that some vehicles may be able to pass through.

The following roads remain closed because of high water:

  • South County Line Road between U.S. 27 and Winchester Road.
  • Marion Center Road between U.S. 27 and Winchester Road.
The highway department urges drivers not to go around the barriers or drive through flooded areas. Six inches of standing water can cause passenger cars to stall and a foot of water can cause many vehicles to float.

The Allen County Highway Department continues to offer free sandbags to county residents. The fill-them-yourself bags and sand will be available anytime until further notice inside the salt storage units at the north facility, 2234 Carroll Road, and the south facility, 8317 E. Tillman Road. Residents will need to bring their own shovels.

Salt dissolves when wet and won’t hold back water, so the county reminds residents not to try using bags of salt.
