Arrest follows gang-unit chase

Henry Purifoy

A 23-year-old man with ties to a Fort Wayne street gang – the D-Boys – was arrested Sunday evening after a brief police chase by members of the newly created Gang and Violence Crime Unit.

Henry Purifoy was initially pulled over by Indiana State Police trooper John Grant on a moving violation but sped away, leading Grant on a pursuit in the area of Weisser Park.

At one point during the chase, Purifoy threw a handgun out of the passenger-side window. Recovered by police, the gun was later found to have been stolen, according to a release from the Indiana State Police.

Purifoy bailed out of the car near Hanna an LaSalle streets and ran toward Chapel Oaks Apartments.

He was caught by Grant and a Fort Wayne police officer working with his K-9 partner, according to the release.

Purifoy was arrested on initial charges of resisting law enforcement, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, possession of marijuana, possession of a handgun by a felon, possession of a handgun without a permit, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass, according to the release.
