Woman walking on Lima Road hit, killed

FORT WAYNE – A woman walking on Lima Road in dark clothing before dawn Saturday was fatally injured, police said.

Officers were called to the 4900 block of Lima Road about 6:15 a.m. When they arrived, they found a woman unconscious and unresponsive in the road, according to a statement issued by the Fort Wayne Police Department. The officers attempted to revive her, but paramedics and fire personnel arrived and determined that she was dead.

The police said preliminary reports indicate the driver was unable to see the woman dressed all in dark clothing walking south in the far west lane.

Southbound Lima Road remained closed to traffic between Progress Road and Production Road for about two hours.

The death remains under investigation.
