IPFW crushes IUPUI 84-60

INDIANAPOLIS – IPFW reached 20 wins for the first time in the school's NCAA Division I history on Saturday afternoon with an 84-60 rout of last-place IUPUI.

Luis Jacobo had 13 points and nine rebounds as the Mastodons rebounded from a 1-3 slump with an all-facets domination of the Jaguars, who played their final game at IUPUI Gymnasium.

Steve Forbes added 12 points and nine rebounds for IPFW, while Joe Reed scored 12 points and Michael Kibiloski had 11. Pierre Bland chipped in 10 points, six assists and six rebounds.

IPFW (20-9, 8-4 Summit League) entered the day tied with Denver for third place in the conference standings, one game back of South Dakota State and two behind North Dakota State. The Mastodons travel to Western Illinois (Thursday) and Nebraska-Omaha (Saturday) next week to finish the regular season.

Each team was coming off six days rest, and IUPUI (6-23, 1-11) lost for the 16th time in its last 18 games.

The Mastodons shot 64.8 percent from the field and limited IUPUI to 40 percent. IPFW assisted on 19 of 35 field goals.

IPFW received a scare when Bland went down under his own basket with just under 16 minutes remaining. He limped off the floor and had his right ankle taped. He re-entered shortly after.

A basket by Edwards pushed the Mastodons ahead 52-31 with 14:20 remaining, completing a 16-5 burst to start the second half. They led big the rest of the way.

They first took control of the game midway through the opening half, beginning with Bland's on-the-money assist. Evans swished a 3 off crisp rotation and spacing, Reed made a hook with his left hand, and Forbes scored on back-to-back trips to cap a 12-3 run that made it 20-11 with 10:06 left.

Jacobo scored in the paint with 10 seconds remaining to give IPFW a 36-25 edge at the break.

Marcellus Barksdale led IUPUI with 13 points.
