Fort Wayne police officers and firefighters investigate after a collision involving an SUV and a pickup truck late Thursday at the intersection of Anthony and Rudisill boulevards.

Police chase ends with crash; 2 seriously injured

– Two people were seriously injured late Thursday after a sport utility vehicle being chased by police collided with a pickup truck on Fort Wayne's south side.

Police said they attempted a traffic stop at the intersection of South Hanna and East Lewis streets. A pursuit began after the SUV failed to stop.

The SUV ended up in the front yard of a house in the 3900 block of South Anthony Boulevard, while the pickup was left heavily damaged in the intersection of Rudisill and Anthony boulevards about 10:30 p.m.

After the crash, officers handcuffed the SUV driver at the scene. The passenger ran in the direction of Lillie Street.

At the same time, police said, they received reports of a burglary in progress in the 3900 block of Lillie. When officers arrived, they apprehended the SUV passenger inside the home, police said.

Officers said the passenger had an active warrant, and they found drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The Gang and Violent Crimes unit is investigating the incident, as both the driver and the passenger are known gang members, police said.

Two people were taken to a hospital in serious condition, police at the scene said.

The crash left aluminum cans in the intersection and a trail of debris, including crushed auto parts and glass. Police diverted traffic from Anthony and Rudisill to narrower side streets.

The incident is under investigation by police and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
